This ground-up residence is nestled between three mature live oaks on a steeply sloped site in Rollingwood, Texas. Rather than orient the house perpendicular to the street, the design is turned ninety degrees to follow the contours of the land. This simple solution allowed for the creation of a sunken front courtyard while opening up at the rear to the backyard. Materials are simple and natural: stone, white cement stucco, western red cedar and glass. A tall corner window provides tree-dappled light and controlled views into the residence without sacrificing privacy. Two airplane hangar doors both enclose garage and then open up to cover a large outdoor entertaining area. This home achieved the Austin Energy Green Building 5-Star Certification.
